COUNSELLING PROGRAMME

Our professional counselling staff help people resolve problems that challenge their lives. The following briefly describes the types of counselling provided:

    INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING: People seek individual counselling for a variety of reasons. These are otherwise healthy individuals who are currently finding life difficult. The kinds of issues they address in counselling include, personal relationship issues (home or work), depression, anxiety, anger, low self-esteem, separation and divorce, loss and grief.

    MARRIAGE COUNSELLING: includes relationship building, intimacy, communications, conflict resolution, problem solving, demands that spouses make on each other.

    FAMILY COUNSELLING: parenting issues, response to changing family structures, other needs, e.g., separated and divorced, single parent families, blended families, dual career families.

    VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN PROGRAM: Services for women and their families where there has been physical or emotional abuse in their intimate relationships. These services will provide individual, couple and group counselling, safety planning, advocacy and referrals for other services. We also offer individual and group counselling services for women survivors of sexual abuse.

    GROUP COUNSELLING:
    The Agency currently offers the following counselling groups:

    · Group Services for Abused Women:
         · Safe to Share Open Group;
         · Violence Against Women Support Group;
         · Violence Against Women Group for Women Of Colour;
         · Changing Relationship Patterns;
         · Survivors of Sexual Abuse;
    · Choosing to Change;
    · Overcoming Depression: An Interactive Group for Men

The helping process is tailored to the needs, strengths, values and goals of individuals and families. Our counsellors recognise and sensitively respond to differences in cultural, racial, gender, and religious backgrounds of people.

FEE FOR SERVICE:
Catholic Family Services of Toronto is supported primarily through funding from ShareLife and client fees. In counselling, a fee is charged according to a fee scale based on a client’s income level. No one is denied service because of his/her inability to pay fees.
