WELLNESS PROGRAMME

The Agency's Wellness Programme is based on the preventive concept of promoting positive growth and competence in people as they move through life transitions on a continuum of family/marital/individual life cycle:

  • unattached;
  • coupling - preparation for marriage;
  • marriage/young children;
  • raising adolescents;
  • children leaving home;
  • later adult life.

The Wellness Programme provides education, information and support to help individuals, couples, and families recognize and develop their strengths. The goal is to assist people to move through life’s various passages competently and successfully.

RANGE OF WELLNESS ACTIVITIES

The Agency provides five inter-dependent wellness programme activities:

  • Family Well-being;
  • Marital Well-being;
  • Children’s Well-being;
  • Women’s Well-being;
  • Men’s Well-being.

There are many dimensions of wellness, but the Agency programme primarily is focused on the following:

  • SOCIAL WELLNESS: a perception of an overall supportive connectedness with one’s family, friends, and co-workers in normal times as well as in times of need;
  • EMOTIONAL WELLNESS: refers to, for example, a possession of positive self-esteem and self-identity, an ability to enjoy the positive aspects of life, as well as the ability to manage unpleasant situations and moods; an awareness of others’ feelings and needs;
  • PSYCHOLOGICAL WELLNESS: a general expectation in one’s ability to manage tasks, events or circumstances in one’s life with positive outcomes; and
  • SPIRITUAL WELLNESS: a positive perception of meaning and purpose in life.

WELLNESS GROUPS:

The following lists some of the types of wellness groups provided by the Agency:

  • Marriage preparation;
  • Re-marriage preparation;
  • Men’s/women’s well-being, e.g., groups on self-esteem, anger, life style management, spirituality,
  • Building a strong marital relationship;
  • Parenting, including groups for separated and divorced fathers;
  • Living with separation and divorce;
  • Partners of survivors of sexual abuse.
