WOMEN’S WELLNESS
Catholic Family Services of Toronto wishes to respond to the changing needs of women by offering services specifically designed for them. The focus is on programmes that provide women with the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain and enhance a healthy life style while managing the variety of challenges they face as part of their day-to-day living.
Overall, the programme emphasis is on prevention, education, and enabling women to move through life’s various passages competently and successfully.
OBJECTIVES:
More specific objectives are:
- to promote the conscious ability of women to effectively manage life transitions and tasks.
- to help women learn how to create desired changes to transform their personal and social lives.
- to strengthen the ability of women in dealing with some of their specific issues, e.g., self esteem, assertiveness, anger, intimacy, anxiety, stress, spirituality.
- to ensure women’s safety.
SERVICES:
- Wellness groups and seminars on selected topics.
- Counselling services for women and their spouses/families; services to women victims of domestic violence and their children and survivors of sexual abuse.
GROUP DESCRIPTIONS
The following provides brief descriptions of various groups provided by the Agency:
WOMEN’S SELF ESTEEM:
A series of group sessions designed to help women become aware of their own giftedness and resourcefulness and to enhance their self-esteem.
WOMEN’S SELF AWARENESS - "DEMYSTIFYING ANGER":
In a group setting, women will have the opportunity to learn to deal with their anger in a positive, healthy way by: examining myths about women and anger; learning to identify and understand their feelings; gaining insight into the true sources of their anger; learning to deal with anger and to be more self-assured and positive.
LIFE STYLE TRANSITIONS FOR WOMEN OVER 60 - "STAGES NOT AGES":
The group is designed to assist women over sixty with topics such as: women in changing family roles, life in transition, caring for others while caring for self, searching for new meaning in life.
